Midnight Rider: Night 3 End Of The Line - EPISODE 5

Freeways may have the same numeric designation and stretch for thousands of miles but are changelings at night, becoming glowing shapeshifters of reflective signs, Botts dots, and drunk bumps. White and yellow lines of high-tech microcrystalline reflective paint disappear into the vanishing point. Some parts of the freeway light up with the latest technology while others literally disappear in disrepair. Massive freeway signs pop from the gloom-like glowing Tarot cards foretelling a…

Midnight Rider on a Graveyard Run

Who’s traversing the dark tarmac at witching hour on American highways? The most obvious answer is of course truckers, working men and women delivering precious cargo to a napping nation. 70% of all freight is delivered by diesel jockeys accounting for 255 billion dollars in trade yearly. They’re America’s last real cowboys/girls riding the open range. Secondly are outlaws. Hijackers, thieves, prostitutes and last call for alcohol desperados driving drunk bumps one eyed blind. Lastly…

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — Today's road warriors are health-conscious, more connected thanks to technology and still loyal to their perennial favorites like Dunkin' Donuts, Subway, Super 8 and Bridgestone, according to a new survey of Atlas Van Lines drivers. Now in its eighth year, Atlas Van Lines' King of the Road Survey provides insights from the moving company's drivers on their preferred brands, use of technology and how they stay healthy while logging miles. EEOC seeks rehearing for truckers

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission asked a federal appeals court yesterday to reconsider a ruling that could hurt its ability to pursue class-action discrimination lawsuits on behalf of workers in the Midwest.

The agency filed a petition asking the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider a February ruling that dismissed a lawsuit filed on behalf of more than 100 women who claimed they were sexually harassed by male drivers at an Iowa trucking… Continue

Medical Exam Checklist

Medical Exam Checklist Part: 1 This week, the FMCSA passed its last hurdle before publishing its list of Certified Medical Examiners. Read Part:1 of the Medical Examiner’s Handbook to learn what the medical examiners will be expected to look for. The following is taken from the FMCSA Medical Examiner’s Handbook: Certification and recertification occur only when the medical examiner determines that the driver is medically fit for duty in accordance with Federal qualification requirements for…

Get your own Operating Authority and CAN'T make money.

When I ran my own truck and reefer I couldn't tell you how many times I passed a truck stop and heard other owner op's complaining that "You can't make any money out here." To keep it simple that can be true if you do things wrong from the beginning. A persons success is determined by these factors: Income to debt, type of freight and competition, mentality, equipment, and if your a "truck driver" or a business owner. Running a truck takes some savy and skill but some get into this part of…

Just Starting Out, Could Use a Little Help.ne

So it looks like I am finally going to get to do it.  On Aug 13, I will be starting my Class 1 training course at CFTR in  Laval.  This is something I have been thinking about for a long time, but in BC, the expense always made it out of reach. Fortunately in Qc the course is actually government sponsored, so that is one barrier down.

The next barrier of course is to find work and that is where the help comes in.  I am trying to find trucking/cartage companies in the Mtl area…

Speeders and Dodgers

Had a very satisfying experience this week travelling with our Heavy Chevy and Trailer from Orillia to Barrie...speeder talking on his Cell while covering every lane weaving in and out and cutting off other cars and truckers with his Mercedes 4x4 SUV...we called Ontario Provincial Police as did many other truckers we heard over our CB...they got the guy pulled over before we hit Barrie...and before he killed somebody...felt good!

Highway Courier Contracts

Driving on-call emergency blood supplies to hospitals is a challenge since we are aware that somebody may be on-hold on an operating table with their life on-hold...we cover all hospitals from Windsor to Toronto area and up to Barrie and Orillia and back over to Owen Sound, Goderich and Sarnia areas and back home to London,Ontario.  Our Dodge Van usually handles the job with up to about 40 boxes of blood which is time-sensitive as well as temperature sensitive and is very fuel efficient and…

Why can't I follow my dream

The open road has always been my dream.

Have driven since I was old enough to hold a drivers licence. That would make it now 33yrs with only one small accident (minor fender bender) and well over 3m miles.

Have driven the biggest vehicle you can drive on a car licence and even 7.5t. Driven for some good and some bad companies. But since being laid off last year. I can't get back into employment. Is it cause of my age, or is it cause now…

New Here... :)

Hi all! Hopefully I'm not considered an outsider... I actually currently own and operate a taxi service. I've always been interested in Class A OTR, but can't get into it at the moment, so biding my time. In the meantime, I figure there's a lot I can learn by listening and reading. I like to be prepared for most, if not all possibilities.

I'm not a typical wannabe stuck driving a 4-wheeler though. I have driven non-CDL commercial trucks before. All box trucks, mostly 14' Ford F650,…
