After 32 yrs. of OTR driving and over 5million miles of safe driving.(from the state of OHIO award).I was diagnosed with MS when I was 35.I had to drive using my trailer brakes to come to a stop.I couln,t get foot off the gas pedal and raise my leg up to apply the brake. My neuroligist told me this day would come. When I went for my 2yr. physical the doc had me jog in place, when I did I fell over on the floor.Scared the hell out of doc and pissed me off.Oh,well now I,m drawing total ss disability.I have to use my left leg to drive my car, can,t drive my Harley any more either.Miss all the places iv,e been and especially all the drivers I met, scenery, good talk and believe I liked the food at truck stops to.But for now all I have is this site to go to when I,m feeling depressed.Great site. And for all you truck drivers out there,God bless you one and all.My favorite quote from Red Skelton.

thank you. you have made this disability thing go a little easier. now i know there are others that have/are going through being throwed off the road.i have 17 years otr, and because of stage 4 oateoarthritis i cant drive my rig. i can barley handle the 4-wheeler.
I'm a 26 year veteran of the highway millions of miles safe driving DAM DOT took me off the road 2 years ago for seven stints. Next week I have surgery on C-3 -C-7 for a pinched spinal cord. I loved driving and miss the open road.
Dan and I have allot in common thanks to Dan, and the 18 wheeler website I can still stay in touch.
I have to agree with this being a good website and I'm sure you have or will have plenty of people who you can live vicariously through - there is no upside to any kind of illness but 5 million miles is something to be damn proud of. I don't wish for anyone to be depressed but I do hope you visit here regularly.
BTW, Dan... Go to MSrefugees.com to get the latest info from people like us.(with MS) Send me an e-mail karlt1954@bellsouth.net
Be happy that you have had so many years of driving with MS. A month after my diagnosis of "probable" MS, I was fired, flunking the physical on those words alone. I had passed a rigorous physical just the week before. I could still have driven for quite a while, but you flunk the physical, and you are toast! That was 22 years ago, and I still have my love of the road... gotta get more lights on my van! My screen saver is hood shots from "One Girl Trucking" on Facebook.
