Diesel average creeps up to $3.856

The national average price of diesel has crept upward the past three weeks, but not by much. The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported the average at $3.856, an increase of six-tenths of a cent, for the week ending Monday, Feb. 6.

The average price hasn’t changed much in the past three weeks. The average was at $3.848 in mid-January according to the EIA.

During the past week the diesel average decreased slightly in the Lower Atlantic and Gulf Coast regions but other regions experienced a slight increase. Prices in the Midwest increased 1.7 cents per gallon, and the New England region reported an increase of 1.3 cents for the week.

Following are the diesel price averages by region as posted by the EIA:

U.S. – $3.856, up six-tenths of a cent
East Coast – $3.948, up three-tenths of a cent
New England – $4.101, up 1.3 cents
Central Atlantic – $4.046, up six-tenths of a cent
Lower Atlantic – $3.846, down two-tenths of a cent
Midwest – $3.751, up 1.7 cents
Gulf Coast – $3.775, down one-tenth of a cent
Rocky Mountain – $3.817, up one-tenth of a cent
West Coast – $4.036, up three-tenths of a cent
California – $4.128, up eight-tenths of a cent

ProMiles, which tracks prices daily and by state, reported the national average down one-tenth of a cent to $3.855 on Monday.

New York edged out Connecticut for the highest price, $4.181 per gallon, while Indiana had the cheapest average by state at $3.552.

Crude oil prices were down 67 cents a barrel on Monday, trading at $97.17 on the New York Mercantile Exchange.
