I also remember those good old days.When theonly thing you needed was a chaufeurs license and be 25 yrs. old to drive big trucks.We did,nt have to use log books either,no piss tests,no bridge laws,no cdl,no weigh stations,I use to carry maps of al the states I was passing thru to figure out my best route to take to get to my destination.We also got paid by the Hour not the mile.We also had clocks on our dashboards so when you left on a run you got you,re pappers with a little key to unlock those clocks and insert a round disc into the clock so it could tell the company you were driving for how fast you were going and when you were stopped or moving.We also only had cab overs to drive with no ac just fans mounted on the dash boards to keep you cool.Not the long nose you see out there now with air ride,ac,super 10s, and other luxuries you did,nt see back in the days when Internationals with 15 speeds was all we had to drive.I myelf always liked driving cabovers especially when backing into a tight spot where there were cars parked right there and did,nt have to worry about the nose of my tractor swinging out and hitting one of the cars while I was jacknifing my trailor into the docks.Now that I,m retired from it I only have this site to get on and bring back those memories I miss.Thank You Bill Mcqueen for starting this site

Those were instead the golden days. But with so much of trucks and over populated roads Government has to make adjustments with laws. From these laws people are benefited too. On the controversial side it also bring some flaws too. But this is a part. Nothing can be perfect.

Least I forgot we also dd,nt have power steering.We had air steering which entailed you to use less of your brakes going down a steep hill an more down shifting without grinding the gearbox to hell.The more you used your brakes the less steering you had.
