Hey Christian ~
Shame there are some "old school" drivers out there with that attitude. Just goes to show some people are out there for themselves, not to help better the industry.
I've been at this for 30 years and I know what it was like when I started on my own. 5 years? Ha, wait till you grow up and learn something! Sad thing is too many pass judgement based on how they were treated, not how they learned the business.
I climbed into an old 1966 Brockway (built by Mack) with my dad in 1972 and learned more about the industry, how to treat people and strong work ethics by the time I was 16. This included helping others to understand what the tasks are or give guidance. He was a firm believer that helping another driver simply improved the industry.
Companies today don't want drivers to think for themselves, just do what their are told, where and how to run, what route to take, where to fuel and so on. Schools only teach a driver how to shift, back and keep from killing someone, they don't teach anything about life on the road, how to respect others or themselves.
I've met as many new drivers out there with similar attitudes, I went to school so I know everything. You been doing this before there was a thing as truck driving school so since you have no proper schooling in this you can't possibly know what you are talking about.
There are still some us "old farts" out there who don't have any issues with helping younger drivers find their way around.
