Do not stay out that long, or the companies might have you go back to school for a refresher course.

Sorry I was typing when your comment came back. I would try the training companies, they usually want to know if you came from a legit school, there are alot of diploma mills out there who just pump out students that don't last a year. If you chose to stay in, and do the dsriving thing, it can be fullfilling. I am happy, I make a decent wage, have a retirement plan and medical with my company. I do about 2500-2700 miles a week, and don't have to push myself. As I said before the pay is good, don't get me wrong it's not wall Street money but I pay my bills and the kids get what they want, and the ex doesn't complain.

one of my friends is a trainer with conway, he currently has a trainee, but anyway he says they pay their trainee a decent wage and usually its only a few weeks till you get your own truck. If you have a few years you might try Transport America, or Barr Nunn. I worked for TA, before I had a medical issue, Then Barr Nunn offered me more money, and that's where I have been since, just don't do regional with any one, they all seem to screw with those drivers. There are of course the training companies, like JB Hunt, PAM, Swift.... I don't recommend them but if you are looking to get on the road for experience, and can do without pay...that's your way to go.
