I have been unemployed for almost 3 years now. I had gotten hurt on the job, went through the surgery, ive got restrictions but I can go back driving but its not advised as the smartest thing to do. During my recovery time WSIB gave me the opportunity to retrain and I took advantage of it. I went to a college in Mississauga Ontario called `The Canadian Automotive and Trucking Institute` I graduated out of there with a Honors Diploma in Transportation Operations Specialist`. I have been looking for work since May 2011. My very first job interview the guy was ready to hire me and I thought I had landed a great job until he told me he only paid $10.00 an hour and he wanted me to take new drivers across the border into the states to show them the correct way to cross the border ....I was not comfortable with that at all, so I declined and kept on looking. This fall I found a job again I thought WOW this great..after 3 weeks I walked out. Why, well I put up with being told that I knew nothing about trucking only what my instructors wanted me know, That I had no clue about hours of service (both Canadian and USA) talk about working in an enviroment to ruin your self confidence..this was from a co worker teaching me the ropes who had worked as a dispatcher for a dump truck company for a year and now a dispatcher at a small trucking company for long haul..I have 5 years as a long haul driver who has travelled in both Canada and the USA. So I walked..I could just see trouble knocking on that company`s door in the near future and I was not going to be there for that...so I am looking still for a job. I have gone for many an interview but no luck. I am at the point where if I do not get a job soon I will be living in my car with a sick husband and dog..people laugh when I say that but they have no idea how really bad financially I am. Having a husband that has had damage in the brain from strokes who has a huge medication list I have to pay for along with trying to make ends meet I am almost at the end of my rope. I know the industry, maybe not as much as someone with that University degree or years of experience but I am willing to learn what I don`t know yet. I have a love and interest of the trucking industry and that is where I would love to be working...does anyone have a job for me....
