ECU question ?

Last winter the 'check engine' light kept comming on in my Columbia and the diagnostic check showed ECU and a code, each time I went to the workshops the light refused to come on and the computer they conected showed no faults. After a month of not idling to keep warm the problem went away. I assumed that the long idling sessions caused a build up of tar and oil residue  in the system, I say this because after a night of idling when I restarted and moved I got a strong tar smell from the exhaust.

With the receny hot weather I have had to idle some nights to run the A/C and the prblem has returned but only for about five minutes and again ever time I call into the workshops no fault can be found.

Has anyone else had this problem ?

is your truck new enough to have a regen system, if so it nay mean it's time for a filter replacement for the regen?

Thanks for the response. The truck has now been replaced with a new Cascadia that has a 'regen' system. After I switched it the workshops spent a week sorting out the problems and a new driver now uses it.

There are many bugs in those Big time emission componentized trucks. Ie. 2008 and newer. They put the stuff on there and the odd time the computer doesnt even know what the code means. And hooking it up to a Electronic scan tool only reveals the same thing. Its something we all got to get accustomed to. Trying to explain it to a driver that thinks there is something wrong always looks at you, like do you actually know what your doing?..
